A special limited edition book\u00a0Lucia Joyce: Full Capacity<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by Deirdre Mulrooney<\/strong>\u00a0(Grand Canal Publishing) supported by the\u00a0James Joyce Centre<\/strong>\u00a0has been born in time to celebrate and share the hidden artistic achievements of\u00a0Lucia Anna Joyce<\/strong>, James Joyce’s daughter, on Saint Lucia\u2019s Day (December 13th) 2024! Winter solstice in the Julian calendar, this feast day was traditionally celebrated in the Joyce family to honour Lucia and the origin of her name, which means \u2018light\u2019, at the darkest time of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join us at James Joyce Centre at 1pm<\/strong> on Saint Lucia\u2019s Day 2024 as we continue this Joycean family tradition, by launching Deirdre’s meticulously researched illustrated booklet, which originally appeared in Joyce Studies Annual 2021 as \u201cFail Better: Lucia Joyce and the Abbey Theatre Ballets\u201d. The event will feature readings by Deirdre and other guest speakers as we enjoy a lunchtime tea and coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deirdre is a dance historian and documentary maker, and author of books including Irish Moves, an illustrated history of dance and physical theatre in Ireland<\/em> (Dublin: The Liffey Press, 2006). Copies of Lucia Joyce: Full Capacity<\/em> will be available for sale at \u20ac10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
